Rough Hollow Cove [Suggest Edits]

Description

Lake Travis in itself is a gem of the Texas Hill Country... but this particular cove off of Rough Hollow is especially nice for hikers. A great swimming and photo op spot. The only way to reach this particular local is either hiking in or by water craft from the main lake body. You'll often see jet skiers and boaters out toward the wider part of the cove as there is a boating marina at the mouth. However, they generally stay away from this back area of the cove. It's a nice uncrowded access point to the water for willing hikers. While this requires a little effort to get to it's well-worth it.

Short Hike: Take the Peninsula Pass Trail outward until you come to the cove overlook. Then take the steep-ish mini switch back path (has guide rope) down to the lake. At the bottom of the switchbacks you'll come out onto a rocky 'island-ish' spot where you can hang out and take pics or swim if you'd like. Make sure everyone goes to the bathroom before you start your hike into the cove ;)

NOTE: Lake Travis water level can vary quite a bit throughout the year. Thus, water accessibility will vary depending on the lake level. At the time of this posting and pics the lake is about 5 to 10 feet below full and easily accessible for swimming...to give you an idea.

Family Friendly: Its a fun hike for the kids and if the lake level is right, the end point is a fun time to swim and hang out.
