Description
Montgomery Bell Tunnel is a 290-foot long tunnel. The tunnel, which is carved from limestone rock, was built in 1819 by slaves and was one of the first full-scale water diversion tunnels built in the United States. As such it is list on the National Register of Historic Places in Tennessee.
Short Hike: Use the Harris Street Bridge Trail to access the Tunnel Trail. The tunnel is located halfway between the Tunnel Trail and Bluff Overlook Trail and can best be seen from the end of the Tunnel Trail.
Family Friendly: With relatively easy access, the kids will enjoy learning about the history of the area.

Update
Mostly Dry - The trail has a detour right now which has been marked with paper signs taped to trees. So, of course, there is some confusion. I took a few wrong turns, but with this app was able to quickly fix my course.
