How do you fix your equipment?

I would like to know what kind of devices do you use to fix your hammocks/tents/backpacks etc.?
Unfortunately we don't have a sewing machine at home, and I'm getting tired of handsewing (and m'lady can't sew at all, how ironic!). I saw some handheld machines which - imo - might be perfect for small jobs (like fixing tears, small repairs, adding attachments) esp since they're portable but at the same time I'm not sure whether they could work with thick fabrics and synthetics.
So the question is - what do you use?

- I'm talking about these, can't remember the source of a screenshot, but it's from youtube.

ups: I've already checked some reviews and according to them these machines are really cheap built, but since we don't have a spare room for a big sewing machine I'm still looking for any feedback.

When I don't have access to a sewing machine or have a bigger job than simple needle and thread can handle,  I use one of these.

A needle and dental floss usually. :)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
