Looking for backpacking partner(s) in Central North Carolina

Hey, I'm looking for anyone interested doing some weekend backpacking in the North Carolina, Southern VA, eastern Tennessee, northern South Carolina area.  NC is a really wide state.  I'd ultimately like to move up to longer section hikes, perferably out west where it's not so damn humid. I've been doing a lot of day hikes over the last year or so and I've finally decided I want to start doing some multi day trips.

Hello Ryan

I've been on the board for a while but this will be my first post.  My wife and I retired to our Pinnacle, NC place two years ago this week from our Central NY farm and have been doing more hiking and backpacking then we did up north where we canoe and kayak toured places such as the Adirondacks.  A couple of clubs we've found but not yet hooked up with are:

If you go to meetup.com and search for outdoor clubs, hiking clubs etc with your desired location you'll find a lot of options.

Lastly, the Mountain to Sea Trail celebrates it's 42nd birthday 6-8 September with 27 group hikes down the length of the trail.  Here's a link:  https://mountainstoseatrail.org/birthdayhike/#learn-more

Where do you live?

Hi Ryan

That puts you 3 hours or so from us.  I know there are both general outdoor activity clubs/groups and activity specific clubs/groups right across North Carolina and with widely varying degrees of organization and structure.  Some are big and very organized and some are just folks loking for occasional companionship in the outdoors.  I suspect that you'll find a lot to pick from by using meetup.com or a similar site and searching for a specific type of group such as "hiking" or a general term such as "outdoors" near you.

I was a bit overwhelmed by the variety of individuals and groups on meetup.  But, that's how we found the local Mountains to Sea Trail folks, the Piedmont Hiking & Outing Club and, since I'm new to mushroom collecting, the Piedmont Triad Mushroom Club.
