The trail is a narrow dirt singletrack that winds its way from Peaceful Valley Ranch to the Jones Creek Trailhead. It passes through where the CCC camp was located in the 1930s. It was the CCC that helped build a lot of the park trails.

The trail moves through the bottomland in the park, giving you some nice views. There is little tree cover, so make sure to wear a hat and sunscreen, and have enough water for your trip.

Buffalo move through the park, sometimes using the trails. Use caution around buffalo herds, especially if young buffalo (red dogs) are present or the males are in the rut. Since these buffalo were hanging out on the trail, I turned around.

Jones Creek can be dry at certain times of the year, so don't make plans to pull water from it unless you check with the rangers. Even then, with the number of buffalo, one should use caution.

The badlands spread out before you at Buck Hill. The views seem to be endless, and you might find yourself alone on the hilltop in the evening where you can be quiet and hear the wind blowing through the landscape.
