As the trail gains elevation, you can see more of the surrounding area. If you hike in the morning, you get the benefit of hiking in the shade as the sun isn't high enough to clear the mountains above you.

The trail lets you see what a cactus looks like at the end of its life. Here, you can see what a cactus looks like on the inside as this one has died. The wood was used for shelter or tools by Indians.
