The trail makes its way through an area that is still recovering from the 1989 fire. Be ready to have to climb over downed trees through this section.  Its also exposed, so make sure to have hat, water, and sunscreen.

Early in the spring and summer, the Lamar River crossing can be tricky because of the snow melt.   Later in the summer, or in light snow years, its not as bad.   Your feet will definitely get wet!

Even in July, wildfires are blooming at the higher elevations. The trail descends through fields and forests at this point.

Sometimes you have to share the trail with the animals, as you can see as these bison use the trail to come down the hill.  Give them a wide berth, or wait for them to clear before continuing.
