Camping & Lodging
Plenty of reasonably priced places to stay if you aren't camping. Things tend to get pricier the closer you get to Boone or Blowing Rock.
Food & Drink
If you get near Blowing Rock and want some really good eats and a great atmosphere, try "Eating in the Rough" at Woodlands BBQ. Best eats around at a great price. There are plenty of more expensive places but it has great eating and lots of ordinary folks.
If you want a decent steak or Ribs instead, then Outback is next door.
