Sleeping Giant State Park is a favorite among many who live in the greater New Haven area. Its 1500 acres contain over 30 miles of trails of varying difficulties, from wide, easy trails like the Tower Trail to the challenging Blue and Violet trails, which occasionally requires one’s hands.

Some of the best -- and most accessible -- hiking in Connecticut is at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden. The Sleeping Giant is a trap rock ridge which houses about 35 miles of trails in a compact space. Trail range from very easy to relatively challenging. The Sleeping Giant Park Association runs hikes throughout the year.
