Need to Know

There are several primitive campgrounds between McCall and the trailhead. A campground with a restroom is about a quarter mile west of the trailhead.

Description

Right from the trailhead you are hit with a pretty hefty switchback-laden climb. Things mellow out for a while as you go through a beautiful meadow with views of rocky mountaintops. There are many fallen trees, but the Forest Service has taken care to make sure the trail is clear. There is another set of steep switchbacks and a final small meadow that gives way to a great view of the lake. It's a steep, rocky descent down to the lake, but there is a sandy beach and several great places to camp.

Flora & Fauna

You'll want bug spray as there are some noseeums and horseflies. We didn't encounter any mosquitos. As the sun goes down, the surface of the lake will be swarming with bats! You can also fish this lake for cutthroat and brook trout.
