Dogs evidently bring out predatory behavior the the alligators. You really shouldn't bring dogs-or small children.

This is a great nature hike to give you a chance to see many of the denizens of a Florida swamp. There is a lot to learn here.

This is a flat trail that is elevated a few feet above the surrounding swamp. You'll see a potpourri of wildlife including deer, gators, insects, and birds. All the kinds of things you would expect to find in a swamp. Sunscreen and insect repellent are mandatory. I found it comforting to hold a stout stick in case an alligator lunged at me. I don't know if it would have done anything, but it did make me feel better.

You'll not be able to miss the alligators. Many of them will refuse to leave the trail as you hike by. Nerve-racking the first few times, but then you get used to it.
