Family Friendly This trail has mild gain and accesses a beautiful lake. One exception could be a small tributary creek over halfway up that can be tricky to cross in spring/early summer.

Need to Know

Access to this trail requires a Central Cascades Wilderness Permit for day use and over-night use, a limited supply of which can be purchased on Recreation.gov. Additionally a $5 day use fee is required for parking at the trailhead (or use a NW Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass).

Description

This trail starts from the Pamelia Trailhead which includes a pit toilet and a picnic area by the river. It begins it's steady but gentle climb up the Pamelia Creek Valley almost immediately. Shortly along you'll come to the first of many views of the incredibly clear and beautiful waters of Pamelia Creek.

The trail is shaded by old growth Douglass Fir, Western Hemlock and Western Red Cedar which allows moss and ferns to flourish on the forest floor. Eventually you'll come to two tributary creeks, only the second of which has a bridge over it. In spring and early summer crossing the first can thus be tricky but manageable.

Finally the trail comes to an intersection with Grizzly Peak Trail #3428 which offers awesome summit views of Jefferson for those seeking a longer day hike; Pamelia Lake for swimming, fishing, or just enjoying views; and terminates at Hunts Creek Trail #3440 which can be taken for longer backpacking trips.
