Description

White's Lagoon Road is found in the heart of the redwood forest of Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, at the 5.0 mile mark along Aptos Creek Fire Road. Go right/east at the trail signpost here, indicating that White's Lagoon Road leads to Big Slide Trail.

Beginning in the redwood forest, White's Lagoon Road starts off climbing a short hill on a wide obvious path. After about 0.2 miles a signed trail junction is reached. Although signed, the sign is not your typical trail sign with arrows on it. It does list destinations and distances, BUT the trail for these destinations runs parallel to the sign. In other words, for your desired destinations, do NOT go straight through as if there was an arrow pointing straight ahead, BUT turn to go in the direction along the sign. What this means is that to turn onto Big Slide Trail, turn right/south here. (and on the way back to get to Aptos Creek Fire Road turn left/west here).

To continue on White's Lagoon Road at the Big Slide Trail junction, continue straight. This is NOT marked on the trail junction sign. Staying on White's Lagoon Road, almost immediately, to the left through the trees, an open area can be seen. This is the marshy area. The trail follows the south edge of the marsh for about another 0.2 miles where this trail description ends and the park map shows it ending. However, there are several small unsigned trails in this area that are not shown on the park map, some of which are found at the end of White's Lagoon Road if one wants to continue to wherever they might go. (Caution: poison oak is in these woods.)
