Family Friendly This is a relatively short, friendly trail. This can easily be done with young children.

Need to Know

The park is free to the public with nearby picnic areas and is within 5 miles of restaurants and lodging. There is also a historic lodge that is open seven days a week from February 1 to December 1 and serves family style chicken dinners, as well as other food and beverages. There are 35 cabins for lodging as well.

Description

This trail has moderately steep inclines, but only for short periods. There are several bridges and shallow creeks. During periods of rain the creeks can be slightly swollen, and the wooden bridges are slippery when wet. In the back loop of the trail there are some bluffs in which you can see some traces of Native American toolmaking.

Flora & Fauna

There are a wide variety of plants. Depending on time of day you may see squirrels, skunks, lizards, owls, deer, as well as other typical Midwest wildlife. One fascinating resident that is present during summer months is the Arrowhead Orb Weaver Spider. It is non-venomous to humans, and can make large high tensile webs. Some invasive plants are present, but do not affect the beauty of the trail.
