Overview

The trailhead is just before the gate at the far end of the parking lot. The foot traffic-only Red Trail is well-marked with NJCF red diamond trail markers.

Need to Know

There are two main entrances to the preserve: the Chatsworth Lake entrance off Route 532 and the Speedwell entrance off Route 563.

Description

The trail is a 6.0-mile loop with few opportunities to lose the trail. It is a combination of singletrack through pine barren forest and swamps, with some sections of sandy roads through bogs. The trail can be wet and can flood at certain times of the year.

Easy hike. Took my time and did some off trail bushwhacking. It's interesting to see the recovery of the forest from the controlled burn. 6.6mi
