Description

The First Peak Trail heads through Forest Service land to Stone Mountain before it enters the Little Wilson Wilderness. The trail spends much of its time well above the tree-line as it climbs from Scales Road (FSR #613) through nearly continuous rock gardens and water bars.

At its highest elevation, it reaches the summit of Stone Mountain at an elevation of 4,931 feet. The views make this climb especially worthwhile. In addition to hikers and equestrian riders, the first section in Forest Service land is shared with bikes.
