Description

The trail begins behind the Bonanza Guard Station, off West Fork Yankee Trail Road, and starts with a half mile section of ATV trail. After a half mile the trail becomes singletrack for its remaining length. The ATV trail section has a short descent followed by a moderate uphill.

Once you hit the singletrack, you'll finish the uphill and then descend into the creek bottom. From here the trail stays near the water over most of the length of the trail. You'll be going through a number of old burn areas, so be aware of the fact that there could be numerable trees down early in the season.

There are no major water crossings, so you'll be able to keep your feet dry. The trail is easy hiking with some short ups here and there. As you near the end of the trail, it will become steeper as you climb to a forest service road (Red Mountain Road) near Hindman Lake.

If you are just doing the trail as an out and back it is worth taking the time to head down to Hindman Lake.
