Family Friendly A great way to teach some science while strolling around a lovely lake.

Description

The trail starts at the parking area just west of the lake. It follows the north side of the dam and features a nice set of placards, with one for each planet, representing the scaled distances between the sun and each planet. Each placard has factoids about that planet and shows a representation of the size of the sun from each location (WOW! Neptune is way out there). The trail is paved, albeit a bit beat up in places, but easy enough to hike on. It carries you across the dam and serves as a pathway to the main boat launch and fishing area. Thanks to the local Boy Scout troop that installed the inspiration for the Solar System Trail.
