Family Friendly A short trail featuring a creek, rapids, and waterfall. Viewing platforms extend out over the creek. A picnic area and restrooms at the trailhead make this a great place to spend a day.

Overview

Blakiston Falls is a half day, family friendly hike to Blakiston Waterfalls, a magnificent, powerful waterfall. There are sturdy viewing platforms out over Blakiston Creek below Blakiston Falls.

Description

From the Red Rock Canyon parking area, go over the bridge that spans Red Rock Canyon, and turn left after crossing Red Rock Creek. The trail follows Red Rock Creek through a grassy area, and comes to where Red Rock Creek meets Bauerman Creek.

A sturdy bridge spans Bauerman Creek. After crossing Bauerman Creek, the trail turns right and enters a thick fir forest. It continues through the forest and arrives at Blakiston Creek. From there, without crossing Blakiston Creek, the trail veers right and begins following Blakiston Creek. After following the creek for a short ways, the trail arrives at the base of Blakiston Falls. From here, one can continue hiking along the Blakiston Trail that follows Blakiston Creek to where it splits into smaller creeks with their sources high in the peaks of the Continental Divide.

There are a couple viewing platforms that extend out over Blakiston Creek along the way to Blakiston Falls. One can get an exciting view of the rushing water and rapids from these viewing platforms. The second viewing platform offers an awesome view of Blakiston Falls.
