This trail begins shortly after the Middle Fork Campground (accessed via the newly paved (2016) Middle Fork road) and provides a long route through the valley to a large and quiet lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The trail is fairly flat with minimal gain over the first 6 miles. Then you gain nearly 2,000 feet over the next 4 miles as you work your way up to the stunning Alpine Lake. There's easy swim access for the bold!

Otter Falls is a worthwhile detour from the route and is signed.

It's worth noting that there are no toilet facilities or services at the trailhead, but there is a pit toilet at Middle Fork Trailhead nearby.

Campsites can be found at the lake, but fill up quickly in peak season. Go early!
