Description

To access this trail, head north along Alpe di Neggia. Look for the trailhead and parking area just beyond the auto-postal stop, across from the driveway for Ristorante Ritrovo di Neggia.

The first leg of this trail starts moderately up toward the summit on an old mule track. This climb comes in just under a mile and a half and is a great warm up with the immediate reward of 360-degree views from the summit. Look toward Lake Maggiore in the west and an endless chain of mountains to the north and east.

The trail then heads downward along the northwest ridgeline before a winding series of switchbacks across the western slope toward Alpe Cedullo. This is a great place to stop and sample the locally-made cheese.

From Alpe Cedullo, the trail climbs gradually below the rock-strewn landscape of Sant'Anna and reaches the Sant'Anna Pass marked by the Sant'Anna oratorio (chapel).

The final descent into Indemini is fairly easy and a great cool down. The trail follows the slope of the Sassi Gialli to Val Crosa and then heads through a birch forest. Look for the slate roofs of Indemini as they begin to come into view.

Indemini is the only traditional Ticinese village to be constructed entirely out of rough stone that was quarried on site. Almost all of the houses are dark in color with identical roofs. Indemini is a true gem and the perfect place to end a morning run down the Monte Gambarogno Trail.
