Description

Blackbird Knob doesn't have the sweeping panoramas of Rocky Ridge Trail but you'll still have some great views of the high plateau and diversity within the Dolly Sods Wilderness! Over the 4.4 mile hike, you'll see have an opportunity to see a little of everything that the Dolly Sods offers.

Starting the FR75, you'll cross a boardwalk near the trailhead over a boggy area and then pass a large open area of pine forest to the right. After roughly half a mile, the trail opens up to a larger field with great views. It's not until two miles in that you'll meet up with the upper end of Red Creek Trail. Stay straight on the trail and youll duck back into the forest.

A short while later - maybe a quarter mile - youll reach another junction with the Red Creek Trail connector. Stay straight again and it will finally open up to spectacular views. You are then making your way along the base of Blackbird Knob. As you continue, you'll soon meet up with the Rocky Ridge Trail and have the opportunity to check out some awesome views!

Underwhelming. 3 tween boys struggled and not much to look at. Plus, a lattice of well trodden trails leading to campsites made it easy to get lost. 8.7mi — 6h 00m
