Description

The Big Stonecoal trail winds through dense foliage, along natural springs and growing creeks, and pine forests. It begins in the north at a junction with the Blackbird Knob Trail and Breathed Mountain Trail. The Big Stonecoal Trail extends south on an old logging railroad corridor.

The trail parallels Stonecoal Run for nearly its entire journey, crossing it three times before the stream empties into Red Creek. The second two-thirds of the trail offers opportunities to find water if necessary, and you'll find some great campsites! Just north of Breathed Mountain, you'll find waterfalls and awesome photo opportunities. After meeting up with the Rocky Point Trail, continue to head south and downhill to the junction with Red Creek Trail.

The upper portion was nice and manageable but the lower half was not as easily traversed. It gets narrow and very close to the edge at times. Caution
