Description

This trail is also sometimes called Cat Peak Primitive Trail. Despite its name, it is a well constructed and easy to follow. Begin from the High Divide Trail above Heart Lake. Hike eastward along an impressive ridgeline, passing through beautiful meadows and clumps of trees. Start descending and soon arrive at the junction with the Swimming Bear Lake Way Trail which heads off to the north. Continue downhill on the Cat Basin trail back to the ridge where the Bailey Range Way Trail branches off heading southeast. To reach the terminus of Cat Basin trail, leave the ridge and instead hike northeast down into a cirque high above Cat Creek. The trail ends somewhat unceremoniously at a signpost.
