Description

This spur trail off of the Highline Trail traverses up through rocks to the overlook. All along the way, your views of the Livingston Range to the west give you an excuse to stop and catch your breath. Once at the overlook, a fantastic panorama explodes into view, starting with Sue Lake tucked up beneath you. Straight ahead, Pyramid Peak is the most prominent feature with serrated edges of glacier carved aretes creating a dramatic backdrop.

Visitors taking the spur trail to the Sue Lake Overlook will almost be exclusively backpackers and the temptation will be to drop your packs at the junction for the short scramble. While tempting, park regulations forbid this due to grizzlies getting into backpacks and marmots and squirrels eating salty straps rendering backpacks worthless. Never leave your pack unattended.

Flora & Fauna

Not much grows on the rocks except low growing plants that flower in summer. Birds can include hawks, falcons, and eagles while animals such as marmots, mountain goats and the occasional grizzly can be seen.
